Welcome to Porto PGx

We’re passionate about improving patient care with the latest technology in Pharmacogenomic testing.  Together we can end trial and error when it comes to prescription drugs.

What is PGx testing?

Everyone is unique and nothing is more specific to you than your own genetic code.  PGx testing looks at changes in an individual’s DNA that influence how that person will metabolize or respond to medications.  Analyzing this drug response on a molecular level brings personalized insights on patient compatibility to a broad range of medications.  Based on this insight, pharmacogenomics allows customized treatment for a wide range of health problems including; cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, mental health, pain management, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and asthma. Often, drug choice and dosage require experimentation (trial and error) in order to find the best treatment option. With PGx testing, the need for this experimentation is decreased. As a result, the process becomes faster and more cost-effective and the possibility of adverse events caused by the wrong drug choice or dosage is significantly reduced.

How it works

Sample collection with a simple cheek swab

Sample and Patient information is sent to the Lab

DNA is analyzed for interactions on over 300 drugs

A personalized report is sent to your Healthcare Professional

Healthcare Professional and Patient go over the results

Why it matters to us?

Every year, adverse drug events (ADEs) cause approximately 1.3 million emergency department visits and 350,000 hospitalizations, totaling up to $3.5 billion in excess medical costs. Porto PGx was created to help pharmacists and other healthcare providers use pharmacogenomics to reduce cost and potentially even save lives through more effective personalized prescribing.
